Meet Monique Waldman, founder of Soul School in Suite 210 at Centerco Office Suites. Monique is a mental health professional and radio host. She joined the Centerco community in April 2015 & we are excited to see her business grow! Monique is an extremely motivated entrepreneur with a huge heart. We asked her a few questions about her business and what she does and this is what she had to say…
What is Soul School?
We provide emotional, spiritual and physical support and counseling for those living with a life changing illness. This is our passion as we work with many people who are in different stages of their life.
What did you do before you before starting Soul School?
I was an x-ray technician who taught at a junior college and then moved into surgical sales for Medtronic.
I was the primary caretaker for both of my parents who were dying from Cancer at the same time. My mother passed in 18 months and my Father passed in 6 more years. I was also working, going to school and raising 4 children. I realized that there was no emotional support available that dealt with the emotions of a caretaker as well as the emotional rollercoaster that my parents were on. I desperately needed some help and knew that I was in over my head with all of my obligations.
What is your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur?
My biggest challenge is getting that word out that I’m here. Letting people know that I am a new business in the area. I am currently working with a company to help expand/increase St. Louis Center for Hope’s presence in the medical and mental health field.
What do you enjoy about being an Entrepreneur?
I enjoy the freedom to be creative and I do not have to answer to someone else’s opinion of my vision. I love this most of all!
What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?
Enjoy what you do, work hard and when you are ready to close up shop–hang on one more day. Do not lose hope because success will come. Failure is part of the learning process. It helps to narrow your focus & understanding what has not worked will point you to the path that will work.
